History
repeats itself—in the Philippines. If we noticed, we are again living
in a Medieval Period—the chaotic period in the history of mankind. Look around,
and you will see the signs:
1.
A messy community—In Middle Ages, cities around Europe were filthy, without proper
sewerage system that made streets muddy all the time that causes foul odor. Garbage
were seen everywhere inviting rats and insects.
Now, here in the Philippines, do you see any differences?
2.
Lack of morality—Medieval Europe caters prostitution. There were taverns in every corner that
offers short-term happiness. Personal hygiene then were very much questionable.
Beggars can be seen everywhere. Incest,
drugs, gossips were part of everyday life.
3.
Barbaric Acts—The totality of Medieval Period. People then were barbaric.
Filipinos nowadays exhibits same attitude. Crime rates rises tremendously. Youth have lack of good morals.
4. King and Taxes—For you to be part of a
Medieval community, you have to pay high taxes for the king, to be collected by
His tax collectors. Riches then enjoys privileges while poor suffers. Life here
in the Philippines seems stuck with the Medieval
system. Filipinos have to pay different taxes but to be stolen by politicians.
Riches are rich, and poor remains the same.
5.
Landlords—Peasants lived under feudal landlords during the Medieval Period. Here
in the Philippines, only rich people with strong connection
with the politicians can buy large pieces of land. However, it seems that the
system is much worse than in the Middle Ages, since foreigners owned much of lands
here in the Philippines.
6.
Religion—Medieval people were controlled by religion, and nothing changes here
in the Philippines up to now. The Philippines caters different religions that
promises salvation under their respective doctrines. Since life is difficult
here in the Philippines, most of the Filipinos seek refuge
in their faith, hoping that their life will change for the better.
I have to admit, I’m quite
disappointed that living in the Philippines is like living in a Medieval times.
Nevertheless, I am still looking forward that history will change. Isn’t it, after
Medieval Era comes the Renaissance Period?
